Representatives from CEFCU recently joined credit union leaders from across the country in Washington, D.C., for Congressional Caucus 2026 and the Illinois Credit Union League Hike the Hill, an annual advocacy effort focused on issues important to credit unions and the members they serve.
Hosted by America's Credit Unions, this year's Congressional Caucus brought together credit union executives, board members, advocacy professionals, and industry leaders to discuss legislative and regulatory issues affecting credit unions nationwide. The event included policy briefings, advocacy training, and discussions designed to help credit union representatives effectively engage with lawmakers and regulators.

Following the conference, participants took part in the Illinois Credit Union League (ICUL) Hike the Hill, where Illinois credit union leaders met with federal regulators and members of Congress to discuss issues impacting credit unions and member/owners. Topics included regulatory issues, cybersecurity, digital assets, and legislative priorities affecting the credit union movement.
During the visit, ICUL representatives, including CEFCU team members, met with John Crews, the new Chair of the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA), and other NCUA leaders to discuss the regulatory environment and emerging issues facing the credit union industry.
Participants also met with congressional offices to share how legislative and regulatory decisions can affect credit unions' ability to provide affordable financial services, support local communities, and meet the needs of members.
Credit unions were founded on the principle of people helping people, and advocacy plays an important role in ensuring member voices are heard throughout the legislative and regulatory process. By participating in events like Congressional Caucus and Hike the Hill, CEFCU helps support efforts that strengthen the credit union industry while promoting the financial well-being of the members and communities it serves.
